The Milky Bee is a new and exciting initiative designed to merge education and nutrition in one special package recognizing that healthy children perform better in both academic and physical activities.
Our program covers a wide range of topics including, Communication, Cyber Consumer Information, Information Technology, Public Affairs, Environment and Governance. We organize annual English language Spelling Competitions targeting Schools in Kenya and across Africa. We Recognize, Celebrate and Reward the top Spellers, their Teachers, their Parents and their Schools.
Education and Good Nutrition for Our Kids
Nutrition, Health and Education are three essential pillars of development in any Country. Article 53 of the Kenyan constitution states that every child has the right to:

The primary role of the Milky Bee is to promote a reading culture among pupils and to help them improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop proper English usage while at the same time promoting milk as a nutritional boost to keep the children healthy, helping them to concentrate and learn.
But Why Milk?
Providing milk in schools can contribute greatly to improving the nutritional status of school-going children. Milk is a good source of high-quality protein and an excellent source of calcium.
Milk is a good source of high-quality protein and an excellent source of calcium. A glass of milk will provide 9% of energy requirements, 30% carbohydrates, 42% of protein, 35% calcium, 35% vitamin D, 24% vitamin A and 60% fat of the nutritional requirements of children.

Milky Bee Format
The Milky Bee has an exciting learning formular that will merge several exciting word games, challenges, and concepts that are grade based including:
- Spelling Bee – You Spell the word
- Scrabble Bee – You form the word from the deck
- Reverse Bee – You spell the word in reverse
- Scrambled Bee – You rearrange the letters to form the correct word
- Out of this Word – You use the word provided to create the longest word
- Speed Bee – You spell several words within a minute
- Quiz Bee – You spell the name of the picture provided
Points will be awarded for every correct English word created. Points awarded are based on the original Scrabble Word Game (face value of all the tiles) and will be as follows:
- (1 point) – A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T, R
- (2 points) – D, G
- (3 points) – B, C, M, P
- (4 points) – F, H, V, W, Y
- (5 points) – K
- (8 points) – J, X
- (10 points) – Q, Z
- No points will be awarded for a wrong word
Double words are created when a player utilizes all available tiles to create word. The word score is then multiplied by two to get the final word score.
Our Approach
Registration
- Registration for the 2023 Milky Bee is now open and will close in March 2023.
- For your School to participate in the Milky Bee Championships, you are required to enlist your Learners in the weekly School Milk Program at an annual fee of Kenya Shillings 3,240 or 1,170 for term one, 1,170 for term two and 900 for term three, payable at the beginning of each term.
- All registered schools will be issued with highly nutritious and aseptically processed milk packed in 200ml TCA packets 3 times per week throughout the school term.
- All registered learners will participate for free in the Spelling Bee where the National Winners will receive great rewards including trips to Dubai, and a ticket to African Spelling Bee Championship in Ethiopia.
